Hi Everyone.
I know I usually post on Friday, but it's been unusually chaotic around here. I'm acting in a higher position at in my job - which is exciting, but there's lots to learn.
I just wanted to check in with you all and thank you for reading and commenting, and let you know that normal food-related blog activities will recommence soon. Thanks to those of you who have been commenting - sorry I am behind with everything!

As you may have been able to tell from my last post, I've also been working on publicising and supporting an issue that is very close to my heart before an upcoming state election - the rights of same-sex couples in relationships. I've been blogging, writing, phoning, speaking - all over the place, non-stop - I'm a little bit overwhelmed & tired of my own voice at the moment!
Same-sex couples (and heterosexual couples who don't want to be married, but still want legal rights) have been given the option of having a "Civil Partnership" so that they have many of the same legal rights as married couples, but unfortunately, this legislation is likely to be repealed, after many couples have already had these Civil Partnerships.

If you're from Australia, please sign the petition I created to show broad community support Civil Partnerships/Civil Unions in Queensland and to help stop their repeal by the possible/very likely incoming Government - the LNP, headed by Campbell Newman. The link is here: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/mailboxforequalityqld/. Please share it with everyone you know. You don't need to sign up, you won't get spammed - you simply enter your name, email address & hit submit.
It would be a terrible thing if this important legislation is already repealed. It's really important - this isn't about upsetting religion, or other people's love - it's about legal rights, that every couple should be able to choose to have.

I was also briefly on 612 ABC Radio show's Breakfast with Spencer Howson Monday morning, and you can listen to my short segment here: http://blogs.abc.net.au/queensland/2012/03/first-day-of-civil-unions-5th-march-2012.html?site=brisbane&program=612_breakfast

So cut! How can I join that list? :p
ReplyDeleteI have proudly signed this petition and I have linked it to my Facebook. So proud of you for standing up for what you believe in, but sad at the same time that you have to stand up for something that should just be a given.
ReplyDeletePS You sound great on the radio <3
Done Matt. :) Fight the good fight!
ReplyDeleteWhat got me was that Can-do said that nobody had been contacting him about this issue, so people just weren't interested in it (or words to that effect); in which case, he clearly needs to leave the legislation as is. Good luck mate.
