The Academic comes from a very close-knit family of wonderful, creative, talented and interesting people. His Dad is a world-class composer, conductor, academic and classical musician. I'm kind of a scrappy little rock and roll mutt who left home at 15. So my wonderful "in-laws" have been a really interesting dynamic for me to adjust to.
Whereas I am used to dirty, smelly, loud rock clubs and music (though my sensibilities are far more diverse than that, everyone I like seems to be unpopular and underrated enough that no matter what kind of music they play, they end up performing in these kind of spaces), he is used to beautiful, architecturally designed spacious buildings with great acoustics.
The Academic is amazingly talented in so many ways, and I love him so much. He has changed my inner world, and just with his wonderful presence, has managed to sand down some of my tougher edges and help me to be comfortable in my own skin. He's a pleasure to be around, and I forever find him interesting, charming, supportive and handsome. He's studying to be a Linguist, but is also very practical, and writes and records beautiful songs, as well as being a beautiful dancer (and he can change lightbulbs and stuff!)
And animals love him. He was walking me home from work one day and this baby bird was on the road - he went up to try to coax it off the road, and it flew onto him, then it sat on his head. It was a sassy little thing. It didn't get off for quite some time, so we just sat down and waited, whilst it flew between us. Eventually it flew back to its parents, which was a relief. (OMG, WHAT, HOW AM I GOING TO TAKE CARE OF A BIRD AT MY DESK?!)

P.S. I had to do this post without his help so I apologise for the lack of formatting! :P
